存命の映画監督の中では、私はアキ・カウリスマキを最も愛している。
しかしながら、そのあまりの地味さと知る人ぞ知るの知名度の低さから、ビデオやＤＶＤが無く、とても寂しい思いをしていた。

こんなに愛しているというのに、「コントラクト・キラー」「浮き雲」「白い花びら」以外の作品については、それらを絶賛する映画評しか読んだことがなかった。アキ・カウリスマキを思うと、いつも泣けてきそうだった。
だが、カンヌでグランプリを獲り、とうとうＤＶＤも出た。
今度は嬉しくて泣けてきそうである。

余談だが、カンヌでの授賞式の際、全くドレスアップせずにやってきて、舞台の上を熊のようにうろうろした挙げ句、マイクをトントンたたき、「フィンランドと自分にありがとう」とだけ言ったかと思うと、舞台進行の指示を完全に無視して、すたすた去ってしまった。

彼の作品は常に、貧乏だったりあまり幸福でなかったりする人間の方を向いている。カンヌ映画祭なんぞブルジョワのやることだ・・・と思ったかどうかは知らないけれど、私はそんなアキ・カウリスマキをますます愛している。

一番好きなアキ・カウリスマキ監督の作品集。
「マッチ工場の少女」や「真夜中の虹」や「愛しのタチアナ」などが、いつでも好きなときに見られるなんてまさに夢のよう。
発売と同時に即購入しました。

私にとっては本当に一生ものの宝箱です。

本来これは是非いつでも欲しい人が手に入れられる状態にしておいて欲しいDVDです。
「人生は捨てたもんじゃない。」
監督の、時にブラックで、ほんのり暖かい世界感に触れられる至福の時間。
フィンランドにも一度行ってみたいなぁ。

マルック・ペルトラの過去のない男 [DVD]をみて、改めてマッティ・ペロンパーの存在の偉大さがこの作品群をみて感じられたのですが。マルック・ペルトラもいなくなってしまいました。なんだか映画の中の人生をそのまま生きたのかなと。日本には渥美清さんがいましたが、彼等もフィンランドで愛される役者だったんでしょうね。
