レコーディング歌手として既に４０年以上のキャリアを積むバーブラの代表曲を４０曲収録したベストＣＤ。この世のものとは思えない美しい声で個性的にスタンダードやミュージカルの曲を歌いこなしていた６０年代、ヒット曲歌手として次々と全米No.1ヒットを放ったコンテンポラリーな魅力に溢れる７０年代、アルバム「追憶のブロードウェイ」にて原点回帰を果たし、円熟した歌の境地を見せてくれる８０年代、９０年代というバーブラの変遷を一気に楽しむことが出来ます。「アクの強い個性」という面が強調され、いまひとつ日本では人気が盛り上がりませんが、ディーヴァ中のディーヴァの素晴らしい世界を是非とも本ＣＤで垣間見て欲しいと思います。

６月のNHKBSの映画音楽特集で、バーバラのスター誕生の詩を聞いて、昔岩崎宏美さんのライブLPレコードを思い出しました、宏美さんは良く外国の詩を詩っていたのです。だからバーバラと言う名前は知っていましたが、実際見聞きするのは初めてで感動しました、追憶の詩もです、そこで、バーバラの詩を聞きたくなり、ベスト版を購入しました、やっぱりいいですね、すごい歌い手さんです、購入して大正解でした。

　星四つの理由は、私が70年代半ばまでのグレイテストヒッツ１＆２を先にシンガポールで購入してしまったことにある。
　彼女は出演していないが映画の邦題『アイズ』の主題歌『プリズナー』が入っていない。これがなかなか良い曲だ。
　彼女はキャリアが長いので、こうしてアルバムに漏れたものの良い曲を沢山歌っている。

　私も日本でのバーブラが今ひとつの人気を苦々しく思っている。
　しかし初期作品を聞くと、ミュージカルナンバーを歌いながらジャジーな所が日本人には分かりにくかったのではなかろうか？逆に言うとジャズをミュージカルのようにも歌う。実にジャンルレスな存在なのだ。
　追憶以降の彼女はセリーヌ・ディオンのお母さんの様だ。
