私自身「坂本フリーク」なので、少し偏っているかもしれませんが・・・
８曲目の「Mpata」 は、打ちのめられそうに切なくて悲しいメロディーラインの底に、大陸のゆっくりとした風が頬をなでたみたいに、希望が溢れてきます。私はいつかこの曲をアフリカの平原で聴きたいと思っています。そんな坂本龍一の慈愛が滲むアルバムです。

民族楽器や独特の音階の織り成す音楽が、アフリカの空気や匂いや太陽となって頭の中に広がります。もともとドレミなどない文化の中でうまれたグルーヴが、一つ一つの旋律と微妙にからみ合って、目を閉じていると、「1分間」が「60秒」としてしっかり認識されて来ます。「COMICA」がデッサンだとするならば、「ELEPHANTISM」は、「油絵で描かれた構築画」です。ひかえめなピアノの音色が、ある時は打楽器、またある時はリード楽器になり演出を支えています。是非、聴いてみて下さい。

最近の坂本龍一氏のアルバムはアンビエント色が強い。何かものたりない。HeartBeat以来いいアルバムが出てないのは残念。
