5.0 out of 5 stars ストイックなスラッシュメタル, 2006/3/5
スラッシュメタルに逆風吹き荒れる中発表されたアルバム。
他のスラッシュバンド同様SLAYERも時代に迎合するのか注目されたが、
良い意味でファンの不安を裏切り、以前よりさらにコアなスラッシュを演っている。
歌詞の内容はアンチクライストや悪魔崇拝は無いが、ほとんどがシリアルキラーものばかり（ナチや、UFO？ネタもあるけど）。
この背徳感は流石としか言いようが無い！
SLAYERのアルバム中で最も変拍子やテンポチェンジが多いという意味ではプログレッシブと言えるかもしれない（そんな生易しいモンじゃないが）。
時代性とあいまってSLAYERの孤高性をさらに高めた重要なアルバム。
やはり妥協は一切無い。

REIGN IN BLOODが空を覆い尽くす爆撃機部隊の集中放火、掃討攻撃をイメージするなら、本作は漆黒の闇に唸りをあげるかまいたちの様な切れ味鋭い作品に仕上がっている。だからと言って軽くなったかといえばそうでもない。"SLAYER is SLAYER"、自らをルールブックとした唯我独尊の姿勢を貫く紛れもないSLAYERサウンドがそこにある。何も言わずに切り刻まれるがよい。

最初聴いたときはポール・ボスタフのドラミングにビックリしましたよ。さらにアルバム全体で速い曲が多いので嬉しかったです。ケリー・キングは名作「レイン・イン・ブラッド」を意識して曲を作ったらしいですが「サウス・オブ・ヘブン」以降の要素も入っています。
