   ジャック・ジョンソンの魅力的なポップ・チューンには、ブルースやフォークの影響が見られ、ウィリー・ポーター、ベン・ハーパー、G・ラヴ＆スペシャル・ソースのファンなら誰でも興味を持つことだろう。ハワイのオアフ島に生まれ、元サーファーで映画学校を卒業したジョンソンは、アコースティックなバラードを得意としている。曲の表面は穏やかだが、その下には鋭く力強い歌詞が隠されているのだ。“僕には「たぶん」が「ノー」と同じ言葉としか思えない（It seems to me that 'maybe' pretty much always means 'no'）”――盟友ハーパーのスライド・ギターをフィーチャーした「Flake」で、ジョンソンはそう歌う。ハーパーのレコーディングも手がけるJ.P. Plunierによるプロダクションはシンプルで整然としており、アコースティック・ギターとドラムをジョンソンの気負わないヴォーカルと共にぐっと前面に出す手法は、G・ラヴ（自身のアルバム『Philadelphonic』でジョンソンの「Rodeo Clowns」を録音した）、ニック・ドレイク、ウィリー・ポーターといった面々を思い起こさせる。ジョンソンのギターの腕前はポーターほどではないかもしれないが、これらの曲にはくつろいだ美しさと抑え目だからこそ出せる深みがある。繰り返し聴くに値するアルバムだ。（Bill Forman, Amazon.com）

メインはアコースティックで、アルバム全曲を通して静かで素敵な雰囲気を味わえる１枚。何かをする時のＢＧＭとして流すことが多いのですが、ついつい聴き入ってしまっている自分がいます（笑）
音楽的にはG.LOVEを静かにしてメロディーを強くした感じ。けど個人的にはこっちの方が好きです。素敵な１枚、オススメです。

心が疲れたときに、ふと帰ってみたい暖かく、湿った、懐かしい場所。
ジャック・ジョンソンは、そんなところへ案内してくれる。
いつかわからないけど、聞いたことのあるブルースコード。
安心して、身を任せられるメロディー。
シンプルなアコースティックな構成も耳に心地よい。
アルファ波、いっぱいのおとぎ話の世界。
一度体験したら、もう病みつき。

カリフォルニアのサーファー達の友人であるジャックジョンソンは、サーファーの大好きなメローな雰囲気をよくわかっている人のようです。静かでBGMとしても邪魔にならないけど、気が付くと聞き入ってノってしまっています。
海でのんびりするのが好きな方、聞いてみて！
