１９８９年５月（ヴェネツィア、サン・マルコ大聖堂）、７月（ロンドン、オール・セインツ教会）のライヴ・レコーディングによるＣＤです。

完璧な技術による圧倒的な名演で、欠点らしい欠点はどこにも見当たりません。これがライヴだとは信じられないほど、乱れのないパーフェクトな演奏を展開しています。

特に合唱があまりにウマすぎるので、この曲にいかにも古楽っぽい渋い鄙びた味わいを求める方には、このＣＤはちょっと向かないかもしれません。

なお、このＣＤでは「マニフィカト」が２種類収録されています。

この演奏会の映像も商品化されています。かつてLDで出ていましたが、現在はDVDが発売されています。リージョン0なので日本国内の通常のプレーヤーで問題なく再生出来ます。価格もCDとほぼ同じでお得です。ただし、字幕は英仏独西中の5か国語だけです。

ガーディナー御自身が、本曲演奏の為に自身で結成したオケと合唱団は、尋常ならざる実力を見せ付ける！華麗で強力。日本の評論家は皆この盤をトップに推薦するのも良く分かる。
しかし、余りに隙が無く華麗なため、暖かみや等身大の包容力という感じではない。
キリストの実母マリアさんはこの演奏のイメージだったのか・・・？
しかしこれが最高、豪華絢爛な事は疑いなく、同曲筆頭の白眉の演奏であることは明白である。
