   2001年10月に行なわれたNHK沖縄主催の「新しい沖縄のうた」コンサートのため、BEGINが彼らの“島唄”として書き下ろし、以来CD化が待ち望まれていた本作。なんといっても、沖縄独特の音階で奏でられるメロディーは、人のぬくもりにあふれている。島人（しまんちゅ）とは沖縄の人のことで、「沖縄本土復帰30周年イメージソング」としてNHK沖縄で2002年3月から1年間オンエアされるなど、地元沖縄ではオリコン・ロングヒットとはまた別次元の、人々の生活に根ざした形で親しまれている息の長い名曲。（谷崎俊太）

(1)は三線の響きが象徴する沖縄の伝統音楽とカントリー・ロック調のおおらかなバンド・サウンドを重ねている。郷愁をそそる歌詞は控えめだが、社会への問題提起もあり。どんとの作詞作曲となる(2)はのびやかな歌唱が印象的。(3)はドリーミーな仕上がり。

この唄をテレビで初めて歌詞をちゃんと聞いた時、鳥肌が立ちました。地元の沖縄がもっと好きになりました！皆さんっ沖縄に来たらもっとこの唄の何かがわかると思います！！ゼヒ一度来てみて下さい☆八重山がいいですよ♪実は私も行った事ないのでいつか絶対行こうと思ってます。。。

この歌を聴いていると、人間て、いいな、と思う。

じつはだれでも、自分のなかにたいせつな、だいじな宝物を
もっていて、今までそのことに気づかないできただけだったんだ
というメッセージを、30代の大人としての彼ら自身の実感から
語りつないでいてくれる。

10代の頃は、頭ではワカラナイ、でも心では何かを感じてた。

その感じてたことを形にできない、伝えられないもどかしさ、でも、
大人になった今では、こういうことだったんだとワカル、伝えられる。

この歌を聴くと、大人になるのも捨てたもんじゃないぞ、と
思うんだ。

前々からなんとなく耳に入っていましたが、今年の１１月沖縄に行って那覇の居酒屋で地元の人々に親しく歌われているのを聞いて改めて好きになりました。とても歌いやすい歌で、お客さんが全員で大合唱です。知らないもの同士、打ち解けてしまう陽気さを持っていて大好きです。また、沖縄（特に石垣島）へ行きたいな。
