昭和初期から30年代ぐらいまでの,日本の流行歌をカヴァーした。ほとんどの曲がナツメロのスタンダード・ナンバーとなっているものなので,若い人にも楽しんでもらえそう。どの曲も彼独特の味のあるダミ声がよく似合い,古臭さも感じられない。

相変わらず肩の力が抜けた木村充揮の歌声に、聴いているこちらは全身の力が抜けきって何とも言えない夢の世界。『流行歌』と書いて“はやりうた”と読む。昭和前中期の流行歌を木村が気持ち良さそうに歌っている。ちょいと歌ってみました的な気軽さがとてもいい。昭和の歌謡史をひもとく、といった大仰な雰囲気は微塵も感じられず、それが逆にそれぞれの楽曲に新たな命を吹き込んだ。全14曲、いずれも生き生きとして心に飛び込んでくる。一世を風靡したということは、それだけ多くの人の心を捕えたわけで、その眠っていたパワーを復活させたのだから木村のパワーも並じゃない。彼の歌声はいつも、飄々とした裏側に強烈な自己主張を感じる。それが“昭和”の楽曲に喝を入れ、世につれて生まれた流行歌が時代も背景も超えたところにその存在を誇示することになる。個人的には(4)に惹かれた。これを聴くと、木村充揮という男は実にモダンでロマンティックな品性の持ち主だということがよく分かる。 (平原康司) --- 1997年10月号

どうしても憂歌団の「知ってるかい」と比較するとちょっとインパクトに欠けてしまう。選曲のせいかもしれないけど･･･。だけど「コーヒールンバ｣は井上陽水のそれよりもずーっとかっこいいよ。
