戦争を契機に別離を余儀なくされた男と女。

ロシア戦線に赴いた夫をただひたすら待つ女。
しかし終戦とともに夫を探しにロシアへ渡る決意を固める。
彼女を待っていたのは･･･。

愛に包まれた生活と別離後の悲壮な現実が交互に映し出されることで
強烈なコントラストとして脳裏に焼きつかせられる。

戦争という社会状況に翻弄された悲劇的な愛の転機を描くのは
イタリア映画の巨匠、ヴィットリオ デ シーカ監督。
その悲劇に彩りを添えるのはヘンリー マンシーニの美しい音楽。

ウクライナの大地に咲き誇るひまわりの下には
悲壮な過去が眠っていたのである。

紹介の欄に「メロドラマの古典」と書いてありましたが、まさしくです。

前半部分で男女２人の仲睦まじいシーンが描かれ、そこから愛する人が兵役にとられるというパターン。見せ場は、ソフィア・ローレンがソ連に愛する人を探しに行くシーンだと。ソ連へ着いて、ある理由からサッカー場へイタリア人を見つける場面とかは、痛々しいです。で、愛する人がいるだろうという家を見つけ、そこに笑顔で行きかけるのですが、そこに美しいロシア人の娘がいて、玄関で相対すると、かわいい子供が出てきて「ボンジョールノ」とあいさつをされ、思わずローレンが玄関の手すりにつかまるシーンは、目が当てられないです。
あと、音楽が悲しすぎる、でロシア人の娘が美人すぎる。
戦争の描き方は、大ざっぱで、さりげなくて、僕大好きです。
