『Melody A.M.』は、ノルウェーのグループ、ロイクソップのデビュー・アルバム。巷では「新たな古典」と喧伝（けんでん）されている。それだけに「ありがちなチル・アウト系」とは大違いだ。内容豊かな本作は、温かいごちそうであり、魂の夜食なのだ。収録曲は、ロイクソップの置かれていた環境を反映している。深い悲しみに彩られた「She's So」は、ほぼ1日中真っ暗な故郷の冬に捧げられた曲だし、軽快でぬくもりのこもった「Royksopp's Night Out」は、まさしく白夜のダンス・ナンバーといえる。エールやグルーヴ・アルマダといったバンドの伝統を受け継ぎ、本作はダンス・フロア向けといっても通用しそうなサウンドとなっている――もし心地よいソファーのような感触を捨て去ればの話だが。ほかのアーティストにも影響を与えそうな「Poor Leno」は、ロイクソップがダンス・ナンバーをつくったらどうなるか（実際つくっているのだが）を示すヒントになっている。さて、結論。『Melody A.M.』を聴けば、“ザ・ソップ”の関わったほかの作品に片っ端から手を出したくなるだろう。（Ruby Tuesday, Amazon.co.uk）

ノルウェー出身のユニットがイギリスのウォール・オブ・サウンドからデビュー。ちゃっちくてヘタなクラフトワークという感じで笑っちゃうくらいパっとしないけど、エレクトロニカにはとうてい届かないこのフェイク感はそれなりにクセになりそう。
