   2001年ロック・イン・リオ・フェスティバルでの記念的作品だ。アイアン・メイデンは、この演奏で、空前絶後ののヘヴィ・メタル・バンドだというだけではなく、全盛期と同じようなギターを掻きむしるライヴが今でもできることバンドであることを証明してみせた。イギリス出身の6人組は、25万人の観客を奴隷のように2時間とりこにした。「ザ・ウィッカー・マン」をオープニングで叩きつけ、ほぼ30年間にわたる神話的で超自然的なハードロック物語がすすんでいく。「ザ・マーシネリー」「明日なき戦い」「ジ・イーヴル・ザット・メン・ドゥ」「魔力の刻印」、そしておなじみの「誇り高き戦い」でショーは幕を閉じる。ライヴ映像はベーシストのスティーブ・ハリスによる編集だ。自分のバンドのリズムに合わせているのは明らかで、音楽同様に大胆不敵なビジュアルになっている。2枚目のディスクでは、たとえば、ブルース・ディッキンソンのフェンシングと飛行機操縦への偏愛ぶりなど、ロックンロールから離れたオフステージでのメンバーを50分間堪能できる。短編映画「A Day in the Life」と、短いグループ・インタビュー、バンドのカメラマンであるロス・ハルフィンの写真日記が、ボーナス・トラックを締めくくっている。（Kevin Filipski, Amazon.com）

最初から最後まで、ディッキンソンの声量もそうだが、メンバーの果てしない体力には脱帽した。ベテランでありながら、そこには年齢を超越した何かを感じた。手を抜き、体力を温存しながら無難にライブをすます連中の多い中、見ていて興奮してくるライブに、久しぶりに出会った。

アイアンメイデンはライヴに定評があるバンドだ。過去のライヴ作品を観ても、悪いと思う作品は無い。そしてメイデンは今回も私の期待を裏切ることなく、素晴らしいライヴを披露してくれた。ブルース（Vo）の歌唱も衰えるどころかますます声が安定してきている。また彼はパフォーマンスも激しく、観客をしきりに煽る姿が印象的だった。６人編成となってから初のライヴ作品ということもあり、また２５万人もの観客を前に力が入ってしまうかと思ったが、彼らはリラックスしていた。それでいて演奏は締まっていて、聞き手をグイグイ引きこんでいく。選曲はデビューアルバムから最新作「Brave New World」までを網羅したベスト選曲である。

最初の発売予定日から半年も遅れて発売されただけのことはあり、構成は見事といっていいだろう。ここまで迫力あるカメラワークはなかなかお目にかかれない。２時間ダレることなく一気に観ることができた。とにかく必見である！またDVDには各メンバーのインタビューなども収録されているので、ファンはこちらも要チェックだ。
