elegyを評するのはクラシカルとかドラマティックとか、ありふれた形容ではおさまらない楽曲クオリティがある。例えばキーボードが突出していたり、ギタリストがある種のカリスマ性をもったバンドというのではなくて、全体、各個人の力量がものをいっている。

この「principles of pain」ではイアンパリーの説得力はさらに増し、いかに彼をひきたたせるかのアルバムの作り方も絶妙だ。大作志向を狙っているのではなくて『詩』の深さを追求するとこうなったという気がする。タイトルの通りどの曲も「くどい！」でも胃にもたれないというか、飽きがこないというか、そこはこのアルバムの魅力だろうと思う。でも本編以上によかったのはボーナストラックの「silence in the wind」ってどうなのよ（個人的にだけど）。

オランダのテクニカル・メロディックメタルバンド、エレジーの7th。2002作
私が1番好きなELEGYのアルバムは2nd「SUPREMACY」で2番目に好きなのは3rd「LOST」。
メロディアスさよりもテクニカルさに視点が移り始めた4th以降は、
私の中では「別物」という印象が強く、あまり好きになれなかった。
で、5th、6thを飛ばして現時点での最新を(安かったので)期待せずに買ってみた。
印象としては「おや、悪くないぞ。けっこうプログレだし」という感じ。
サウンドは、重厚さとテクニカルさ、変則リズムなどが一体となっていて、
バンドとしての年季と存在感を見事な演奏の中に感じることができる。
フランス人ギタリスト、パトリック・ロンダット参加2作目ということで、
曲作りの上でもこのギターの存在が重要になっているのだろう。
様式的でありながらも、ある意味ひねくれたクールな感性が所々にかいま見える。
初期ELEGYの面影はないが、テクニカルなプログレメタルとして充分楽しむことができる。

一枚聞くと少々くどい。イアンはこういうのがすきなのかな。
もう少し、プログレッシブのを前作をきいて期待したのだが
・・・、前作同様私の好きなVanden Plasのキーボーディスト、
グンター・ウェルノ(ドイツ語の発音あってるかな?)が
ゲスト参加してくれるとよかったんですが・・・。
イアンやパトリック、ダークのプログラミングはちょっと・・・

物足りないです。

関係ないけど、パトリック・ロンダットはマ○○ス７のバサラ

に風貌が似ているとおもうのは私だけでしょうか<笑>

アルバムとしては、正直言ってまあまあかなってとこですね。
