最新アルバムをここで購入するにあたって、先にこれを聴いた。感じたのは、思いきりやりたいようにやって、これはトミー・リーの金太郎飴で俺様劇場だなあということ。歌って、ギターもベースもキーボードもやり、もちろんドラムも叩いて、一体どこをポイントに聴けばよいのだと混乱しながらも、飲み込まれていった。

トミー・リーは桁違いにスケールが大きい。変な刺青を大量に彫り、1999年のセックスビデオの流出などスキャンダルがいっぱいで、最近はリアリティ番組まで始めて、本当に「何だこの人は」と思う。ビデオの件については、日本人だったら「末代までの恥」とさぞや落ち込むだろう。それでも、この人は堂々と生きているように私には見える。

彼には二人の息子がいる。このアルバムのジャケットには、息子達が自分のインスピレーションの源であると記載されている。そして、亡くなった父親にアルバムは捧げられているのだ。私はこれを見て音を聴き続けて、きっとトミーは息子達に「ダディはスゴイ！」って思われたいのであろうなと感じた。

彼の第一の目標は、自分を満足させることでも、商業的に成功することでもなく、きっと「息子達に、親父はすげえと言わしめたい」なのではないか。彼が今は亡き父親を愛したように、自分の二人の息子にも想われたい。そんな空気が漂う。マイナスの評価なんか凌駕してやるという気概を、遠い遠い日本にいる私は感じるんである。

トミーが愛する息子達ブランドンとディラン・リーのために、自分自身そして亡き父のために、精魂込めて音楽を作る。私はその前向きなパワーを分けてもらう。オルタナティヴもパンクもあまり好きではないのだが、これは聴ける。強引なフィル・コリンズみたいな彼に、「俺のようにやりたいことをやれ、やっていいんだよ」と励ましてもらえる時間を過ごすことができる。

前作のMethods of Mayhemの派手さはあまり残っておらず、どうも
「アーティスト」になりたいTommy Leeの下心が見え隠れする作品。
HOLD ME DOWNはMTVでヘビーローテーションで流れてたけどあまり
受けはよくなかった様子。良い曲ではあるけれど。。世間は
こんな落ち着きかけたTommyは期待してないと思うよ！

ちょっとここはTommyには一休みしてもらって、休暇あけにまた

ぶっとんだ派手なロックアルバムを作ってほしい。
