インドの伝統楽器シタールの巨匠ラヴィ・シャンカールがドイツ・グラモフォンに残した録音の数々を収めた名演集。シャンカールは、伝統の上に革新を成し遂げ、シタールを世界に広めた。

愛娘アヌーシュカのコンサートとCDが成功を収め、あらためて父君ラヴィの演奏を聴きたいと思っていたところ、貴重な4枚の再発である。録音は1978年のパリ・東京と80年のミュンヘン。1920年生まれの大家が還暦を迎えるか迎えないかの時期。西洋世界での爆発的なインド音楽ブームから少し距離をとってきた時期といえる。タブラは、“シャクティ”で2001年も聴衆をノック・アウトしたザキール・フセインの父君、やはり巨匠のアラ・ラッカ。静の内にある動、動の内にある静。いわゆる気負いなどとは無縁の、思念と身体がシンクロし、音が楽器からみるみるうちに引きだされてゆくような、香がたちのぼりあたりの空気をいっぱいにするような、演奏。古典に則った作品ばかりでなく、「マハトマ・ガンジー讃」のようなものが収められているのも嬉しい。有名でありながらなかなか手に入らなかった『アジアの出逢い』(筝・宮下伸、尺八・山本邦山)があるのも貴重だ。 (小沼純一) --- 2002年05月号
