現在は、MOSTやNOVO-TONO、ビッグピクチャーで活躍する日本パンク・シーンの異彩、Phew。このアルバムは、元カンのホルガー・シューカイやヤキ・リーベツァイトらと制作した『Phew』から6年後の87年にリリースされた2作目だ。近藤達郎や大津真と作り上げたサウンドは、ねじれたポップ感と硬質な質感が相まって、フリーキーにしてニューウェイビー。そして、いち音の重要性や、空間的な広がりを感じさせるところなど、ポスト・ロックを先取りした部分も少なくない。個人的には、P-MODELの80年代作、またはヴォーカルの無邪気さや自由奔放さからヤプーズを思い出すが、シカゴ・シーンのキーマンたちが本作を聴いたら、かなりビックリするんじゃないだろうか(ジム・オルークは、すでに聴いていると思うが)。なお、ボーナス・トラックとして、86年6月の渋谷EGG-MAN公演から(13)を、87年1月の扇町ミュージアム・スクエア公演より(14)(15)を収録。歌声のトランス度は、30%増し? ひらけ　散れ　ねむれ　花になれ　おもてをあげよ　いどめ　めざせ　天へ昇れ　のびていけ　とんでいけ　たきしめよ　うたえ　ゆるりと死んでゆけ　とどけ　
前半に並ぶ命令形の言葉たち。誰に向かって？
そして洪水の後、対照的に後半に語られるのは、「知恵の足りない」者、「木偶に等しい青春時代」、「うすら馬鹿」。
「いのちしらずのさつきばれ」をたたえよ。
最後には「すべて黙殺しろいあさ」

戸川純に声は似ているが、ここに「怒濤の恋愛」はない。
オノ・ヨーコにもちょっとにているが、ここにはLOVEもPEACEもない。

「いどめ、めざせ、せいいっぱい」

「てんよりてんへのぼれ」

「らんらんと殺意、血みどろの葉月」

「いのちしらずのさつきばれ、みなごろしのみどり」

「いまこそしたたかはねあがり、そしてゆるりとしんでゆけ」



その言葉、ひとつ、ひとつ、の重さ。

絶望の中に希望はある。

そう思わせさえする、伸びやかな声。

暗く、爽やかな、力のある、混沌とした世界。

生きることへの絶望。

消えていくことへの絶望。

生きるための希望。

消えていくことへの希望。


生死を超えた、音楽は鳴り続ける。
