　それぞれの曲は、これまでのどのアルバムよりもストーリー性を重視した作りになっている。オーケストレーションなどの装飾も多いし、これまでの彼らには見られなかったリズムやメロディラインなどが頻発する。久方ぶりに彼らの音楽に触れる人にとっては、いささか面喰らうかもしれない。その場合はキャッチｰな２、７曲目を何度も聞いて徐々に慣らすという方向で行けば問題無しだ。そして１０曲目は何度聴いても涙腺が緩む、文句無しの大傑作。

　ちなみに２曲目はドイツの「ヒルデブラントの歌」をモチーフにしたもので、オーケストレーションと彼らの持ち味たる疾走感、キャッチーさ、そして詩の叙情性が見事に組み合わされた名曲。７曲目は「ドラゴンランス」のレイストリンを題材にした曲で、疾走しないものの、Somewhere付近の彼らの楽曲フォーミュラに準じたシンプルな曲構成であるため、旧作のファンにも優しい作り。サビにおけるアンドレとハンズィの絡みも絶品だ。

　最後に、どのアルバムにももちろん言える事なのだけれど、歌詞と照らし合わせながら聴くことを、今回は特に強くお勧め。

前作｢NIGHTFALL IN MIDDLE EARTH｣のスケールの大きなサウンドで、軟弱なメロスピ・バンドとの完全な差別化に成功したBLIND GUARDIAN。
本作はそれに続く3年半ぶりのアルバムだ。

サウンドは前作までと基本路線は変わらないドラマティックなメロディック・メタルだが、

スピードにこだわらずただただサウンドの完璧さを追及した前作と比較すると少々薄まってしまった印象。
相変わらず凡百のバンドが逆立ちしたって作れない恐ろしいまでの質の高さを誇るアルバムなのだが、
アルバムごとにその時点で出来る最善を尽くしてきたBLIND GUARDIANというバンドの本質を考えると

このアルバムでは少し守りに入ってしまったのかなという印象が強い。

"Mirror mirror"級のキラー・チューンが入っていれば印象も多少違ったかも。

ケルト音楽をモチーフにした曲が多い彼ら。そこが、今回のアルバムで、見事に開花する。時には、”開花しすぎ、、、”と感じられるくらいのボリュームで迫り来るが、それは一度に消化しようとしたからだろう。時間をかけて、ゆっくりと味わいたい。本当に、血となり肉となるような曲が一杯の一枚なのだから。
