80年代メイデンの最後を飾った名盤です。
かなり雑な例えですが、ビートルズの『ホワイト・アルバム』と『サージェント・ペパーズ』を合わせたようなアルバムです。全編を貫くコンセプトがあり、また個々の曲が個性豊かで佳曲揃い。特に、メイデンの中でも出色の疾走曲『THE EVIL THAT MAN DO』は必聴でしょう!その他、どこからでもシングル・カットできそうな曲ばかりで、まさに宝石箱。
ベスト盤にも、常に本作から最多選曲です。メンバー自信も納得の名曲の数々、聴くしかないでしょ!!

Somewhere In Timeと並んで彼らの歴史上、問題視されるアルバムではあるが、それはシンセサイズドギター云々の問題程度のことであって、楽曲のクオリティーは凄まじく高いと思うし、キャッチーなCan I Play With Madnessも最初にビデオクリップまでつくっただけあって、それこそ彼らの大傑作であり、メイデンらしさは失っていないどころか、これぞメイデンと言えるくらいであると思う。全曲捨て曲なしで、この明るいジャケットが彼らの新しい境地を示していたくらいに思って聴けばいいと思う。ポール・ディアノ時代からIron Maidenらしさは失わずに新化してきた見事なバンドであり、どのアルバムも見事としかいいようがないのは、やはり明確な方向性というのが彼らの核として備わっていたからであり、このアルバムも当然その方向性からはずれていたものではないと断言してもよい。これだけ歴史の長いバンドでありながらここまで駄作のないバンドというのも珍しいくらいである。
