鈴木裕はアウトランを作ったとき、
それまでのギミック重視のゲームに対して、
「現実の面白さを再現してたら、ギミックはいらない」という
結論を見せた。
本作はその延長線上にあるといえる。
ただ歩いてるだけで楽しかったり、
待ち時間に修行や暇つぶしをしたり・・・。
ゲームと現実を結びつけるひとつの答えともいえる作品。

残念なのはドリームキャスト超大作という位置付けだったため、
制作費とかそういう面で必要以上にバブリーになりすぎて、
構想どうりに後が続けられなかったこと。
続編（２）の畳み掛ける驚愕のエンディングにもそれは現れている。
悪い作品じゃないだけに、ほんと勿体ない。

発売当時からずっと興味があって、8年経ってやっと購入したが、プレステ2等のゲームに劣らない面白さ。リメイクすれば「龍が如く」を喰うだろうと私は思う。
また、80年代の街並みを楽しむことができ、懐かしめる人もいるんじゃないだろうか。

プレイしてみないとわからない良さが確かにある。

細かいところまでこだわって作ってあるので、プレイしていて感心する。
天気も自然に変わったりするし、町の人々も一定の生活してる。
しかし物語の舞台や時代背景が地味な為、日本ではあまり人気が出なかったようだ。
バーチャファイターライクな戦闘も良いが、
ＱＴＥと呼ばれるイベントがちょっとつまらない。
全体的に良く出来ているが、

上記の理由により定価でゲームを買うほどの魅力になっていないのが残念。
今なら安いのでもってない方は是非やってほしい。俺はおすすめする。
