　演奏の緊張感が張り詰めた『Fire and Water』、作曲面で飛躍を遂げた『Highway』に比べれば誰もレヴューしないのは素直というか何というか。前二作を覆っていた若さゆえの老成自体は健在で、「Goodbye」や「Gurdian of the Universe」ではまるで子供でもいる父親が悟ったような歌である。ポールがfreeだとかPeaceだとか言いたがるのがなんとなく判る感じ。しかし、前二作にあったマジックはやはりなく、とても同じメンバーが作ったとは思えない。二十歳過ぎたら只の人？　「Little Bit of Love」のようにヒットした曲も有るが、全体的に淡々とした欲の無い演奏とでもいうべきか。アンディ・フレイザーはこの頃何を考えていたんだろう。この後フレイザーの出したアルバムも淡々とした内容だったしなあ。ロックのマジックはまったくフーシギ君だね。

オリジナルメンバーによる最後の作品。1stと同じく自由に弾くことを「許された」コゾフであったが、その奏でる音の何と悲しいことだろう。エナジーがほとばしる奔放な1stに比べ、ここにあるのは朦朧とした感覚の中から湧き起こるコゾフの「核」のみである。いい状態は僅かな時間だったにせよ、剥き出しで迫ってくる彼の魂に圧倒されずにはいられない。HIGHWAYでの老成をひっくり返す巻頭曲の荒々しさ、Tr.3全編に渡るプレイ、Tr.9での生々しいチョーキングビブラートなどが典型例である。ヒット曲Tr.6で聴かせた蛇行するファンキーなベースや持ち込みの自作Tr.5での唸る低音の復活もうれしい。ロジャースがコゾフの事を念頭に書いた詩が胸を打つTr.8やマチ夫人との間に宿った新しい命に捧げたゴスペル調のTr.7など静的なトーンの作品も収録している。

最初の解散のショックから薬物依存症になったコゾフの「笑顔」を取り戻すために帰ってきたフレイザーであったが、ロジャース作Get Where I Belongへの悲しい返歌Goodbyeを残してオリジナル・フリー永遠の幕引きを自ら演じた。そうせざるを得なかった悲惨な再結成の状態から考えると本作は奇跡的な出来栄えとさえ言える。

７２年発表の６作目。Highway 発表後のツアーで人間関係に完全な亀裂が走ったフリーは解散。そして各々のメンバーは独自の活動に入ったが、急遽再結集してこのアルバムを発表した。このアルバムは明らかに契約問題を克服するために製作されたものであり、ピリピリとした雰囲気が露骨に音に現れていて聴いていて少々辛いものがある。このアルバムの前にアンディ・フレイザーはトビーとして、ポール・ロジャースはピースとして各々アルバムを完成させたが、オクラ入りになっている。せっかく新しい道を切り開いたのに契約の壁が立ち上がった・・・という感じだろう。アルバム・タイトルやラストのGOODBYE という曲のタイトルにも現れている気がするが、少しでも早くこのフリーから離れたいというアンディとポールの思いが伝わってくるかのようだ。後の問題の対策のためなのか曲のクレジットもプロデュースもフリー (メンバー全員) 名義になっている。本当に書いていても辛くなるのだけど、このアルバムはこの文章から分かるような音だと思う。曲そのものは悪く無いが、演奏はかなり荒い。メロトロンも本作ではちょっと野暮ったくてヤケクソ気味。
