   1972年に放送された等身大特撮ヒーローを、原作者の石ノ森章太郎による漫画版にストーリー、デザインともに忠実にリメイクしたアニメーション作品。不完全な良心回路をもち、人間になりたいと願う人造人間キカイダーことジローと、ミツコとマサルとの心の交流、そしてジローとプロフェッサー・ギルとの闘いを描く、石ノ森版ピノキオの物語だ。
   ロボット工学の権威・光明寺博士によって誕生したジロー。人智を超えた力をもつ彼は、光明寺博士の子ども、ミツコとマサルに出会い、自分と人間との違いを認識する。ヒーローとしてのかっこよさは実写版同様あふれんばかりだが、実写版では物語のカタルシスを重視していたのに対し、アニメ版ではよりロボットのせつなさに焦点があてられたものとなっている。（田中 元）

原作を忠実に踏襲しながら、大人にも充分耐えうるつくりに仕上げられている。圧巻はゴールデンバット（コウモリの能力を移植された人造人間）のエピソードだろう。人造人間の孤独と苦悩を圧倒的なセリフ回しで演出している。
BGMのみで始まるオープニングも秀逸の出来。キカイダーと共に育った人にはぜひとも見て欲しい作品である。

ボックスセットのみの特典・プレミアムディスクも付いており、商品としても価格以上の価値があると思う。

とにかく大人（男女問わず）見ても面白いと思います！絵柄も洗練されていて、台詞なども子どもでは難しく、よく出来てると思います。映画や普通のドラマを見ている感覚で見られますよ。ただのアニメでロボットものとして見ないでいるのはもったいないです！普段アニメを見ない人にも見て欲しい一作です。主人公のジローには胸がキュンさせられます！
