デビューアルバムに比べてグッと垢抜けた２ｎｄ。
内容的には、クイーンの初期をもう少しエキセントリックにした様な
アーティスティックなハードロック。決してヘヴィメタルではない。
とにかくロブ・ハルフォードのオペラティックなボーカルが素晴らしい。
若き日の彼の唄声を、本作で堪能してほしい。

「生贄」での彼は、まさに「神」そのものだったと思う。

　'75年に、Dr,がJohn HinchからAlan Mooreへ交替した後に発表された2nd。
　これが、まさに“化けた”！1stは普通に渋い佳作だったのですが、2ndはドラマティック且つヘヴィな歴史的名盤です。楽曲もより個性的なり、重く暗く怪しい美を湛えた1、まさに“闇夜を切り裂く”2、聴く者の心を鷲掴みにするバラード3、初期の代表曲であり人気曲6など、本当に素晴らしい！（3は、いつ聴いても涙目になります。）PRIEST全アルバム中最高・最強のハイトーンVo.が聴ける本作は、ジャケも含めて、PRIEST全アルバム中最高・最強に美しいハード・ロックアルバムです。
　このアルバム発表後、1stと2ndを出したインディのGULL RECORDSを離れ、メジャーのCBSに移籍、「SIN AFTER SIN」（'77）以降音楽シーンの頂点へ駆け上がっていきます。

はじめから彼らは、メタル・ゴッドではなかったが、この作品を避けて通ることはできないと思う。名曲1、2の後に、3の泣きが、見事この上ないほど素晴らしい。現在でも、ＪＰ，ＨＡＬＦＯＲＤ双方がプレイするナンバーが並んでいる。9の、やさしく穏やかな曲調は、（ピアノ）今ではめずらしい。ラストの聴き所に、9から10のつなぎの部分がある。10の頭における、ロブの天を突くハイ・トーンは鳥肌もの。
