70年代に洋楽を聴いてた人でオリビア・ニュートン・ジョンを知らない人はいないでしょう。そんなオリビアが「そよ風の誘惑」に次ぐヒットを送り込んだアルバムです。日本独自でシングルになった「ジョリーン」は記録的なヒットになりました。

アルバムの邦題「水の中の妖精」にピッタリな内容がアルバム全体に収められています。この天使のような歌声をBGMに癒されてください。

中学時代にリアルタイムでハマッていたことを思い出しました。
当時彼女とうまくいってなかった時期でもあり、心にしみる歌声と歌詞に
随分癒されたものです。
同世代の皆様、このアルバムは必携ですよ。

オリビアが最も充実していた頃の作品。全篇気品と香気に溢れている。

「Jolene」は日本だけでシングル・カットされた曲だが、そのノリの良さで大ヒットとなった。サビでタイトルを繰り返す事から、その音で「床屋さんの歌」と呼ばれたりもした。「Come On Over」は「私の人生がジグソーのようにバラバラになっている時に傍に来てよ」と優しく語りかけるスロー・バラードで本アルバムの雰囲気を代表している佳曲。日本でもシングル・カットされヒットした。「Pony Ride」はオリビアの動物好きを感じさせるシットリとした曲で、小馬に跨っているオリビアの姿が目に浮かぶようだ。「Green Sleeves」は英国民謡で多くのアーティストが取り上げているが、これ程情感豊かに美しく歌い上げた例を他に知らない。「Long And Winding Load」は勿論ビートルズ(P.マッカートニー)のカバーだが、ハープを強調した落ち着いたアレンジでビートルズとは一味違った美しさを表現している。

オリビアが絶頂期に放った、情感と美しさに溢れた傑作アルバム。
