達郎の中で一番好きなアルバムです。「ライドオンタイム」もそうですが、この頃の達郎は吉田美奈子が作詞で殆どのバックコーラスにも参加して、達郎本人の歌声もさる事ながら、吉田美奈子の日本人離れした可愛くて色気ある歌声に聞き惚れます。また、歌詞の中味も濃くて「永遠のフルムーン」は、ひょっとして美奈子さんは達郎のことが好きだったんじゃないか（古い話だけれど）と思うほどです。達郎の最盛期は吉田美奈子なしには語れません。改めてＣＤで聞くと、懐かしいと思うと同時にもう一度美奈子さんと歌って欲しいなあと思いました。復刻版の中では「ＦＯＲ　ＹＯＵ」が売れているみたいですが、「ムーングロウ」がイチオシです。

ＲＣＡ／ＡＩＲ時代に残した旧譜７タイトル（"CIRCUS TOWN","SPACY","IT'S A POPPIN' TIME","GO AHEAD","MOONGLOW","RIDE ON TIME","FOR YOU"）の同時再発のひとつである。新しいファンはもちろん、同タイトルのＣＤやＬＰをすでに持っている達郎フリークもこれを買うべきである理由は、「デジタル・リマスタリングで音が良くなったこと」、「ボーナストラックが付いていること」以外にも次のような重要な理由がある。

それはライナーに「現在の」山下達郎自身による書き下ろし「解説と曲目解説」が収録されている点である。
これは一種、回顧録のような形で語られ、アルバム制作当時の裏事情、山下達郎氏の心境などが証される。当時の音楽界の「時代の雰囲気」を伝える、非常に興味深い読み物になっている。

本作「ムーングロウ」では前作「ゴー・アヘッド」から大坂でローカルヒットが生まれたことから、東京から大坂へ、そして全国ツアーへ!!という過程が、当時の心境と共に語られます。また、前作との作風の違いについて非常に興味深い説明があります。

最近キムタク主演のパイロットドラマで「ライドオンタイム」が使われていますが、飛行機といえばこのアルバム中の曲「レッツ・キッス・ザ・サン」。当時航空会社のＣＭソングで流れてヒットしました。そして次のシングル、カセットテープのＣＭソング「ライドオンタイム」の大ヒットとつながりました。ＣＭでのタツローの指鉄砲が懐かしいです。
