デビューEPが本国イギリスで話題となり、2001年夏のフジ・ロック・フェスでも注目されたレディング出身の6人組、クーパー・テンプル・クロースの初フル・アルバム。そのサウンドは、彼らが影響を受けたというピンク・フロイドからプライマル・スクリームに至る英ロックの伝統とモダニズムが絶妙のバランスで共存したもので、それが既成の型に収まらない固有のスタイルにと繋がっているのがポイントだろう。たとえばドラマーがいるバンドでありながら打ち込みリズムも併用し、シンセとエフェクト音も導入しているのだが、それらが単なる装飾音ではなく基本はハードなギター・バンド・サウンドと無理なく溶け合っているのが実に新鮮に感じられる。それは彼らがテクノやハウス・ミュージックを通過した新世代ロック・バンドであることの何よりの証だが、その音が旧世代のサイケ、スペース・ロックと呼ばれたバンドに近いのもまた面白いところだ。 (保科好宏) --- 2002年03月号
