とにかく映像感覚がずば抜けています．
ロダンのバルザック像やミケランジェロのミラノ・ピエタを想起させる荒削りなモデリングは、ただただ素晴らしいとしか言いようがありません．
これはこの頃のフロムソフトウェアがPSというハードの限界に対して出した独自の答えであり、おそらくはビデオゲームというジャンルが芸術にまで昇華し得る唯一の可能性だったかと思われます．
ゲームとしてはIIの方が面白いという声も聞かれますが、IIは所詮ゲームでしかありません．IIIは空間芸術です．
謎解き一つとっても、その達成感はゲーム的な面白さを逸脱しています．
白骨の巨人が行く手を遮る大岩を取り除いてくれるときの、おそろしく緩慢な動作．静謐を染み渡らせる絶妙の間．
ゲームに「美」を感じたのはこの作品が初めてであり、その後も同社の『エコーナイト』だけでした．
IIで構築した世界観をを吸収して綿密に練り上げられたシナリオの完成度にも目を見張るものがあります．
とにかく、シリーズ最高傑作であると同時に、ゲームの最高傑作といっても過言ではありません．

それにしてもIVのつるつるとした映像、含みのない物語には心底から失望しました．
あれは蛇足でしかありません．

II、III、IVを持っているがキングスIIIは飛びぬけている。
（-IVも悪くないがこれを超えることは出来なかった。）
甘さがまったくない音楽も静寂を際立たせて素晴らしいが、特に画面の美しさ（風景と武器・アイテム）は
ＰＳ２すら色あせる出来だ。
ストーリーの自由度も高く、何度やっても新たな謎と発見がある。しかしこの寂寥感・・・

文学、アートといった表現でも捉えきれないレアな世界だ。

シリーズ中ではIIの人気に及ばないようだが、恐らく大方のゲームファンの求める方向性とは違っていた為だろう。
もしあなたが最近のゲームに嫌気がさしていたら、または少し人生に疲れていたなら・・・
深夜、この極上のゲームを試してみることをお薦めする。
