一曲目、組曲第１番、舟歌の、煌くような音色の織り成す
精緻なアンサンブルにまず引き込まれます。

アルゲリッチの「組曲第２番」の演奏には、
ネルソン・フレイレとの共演による録音もあり、
そちらも重厚な響きの名演だと思いますが、個人的には
繊細さを失わず、それでいてダイナミックな
こちらのアルゲリッチ＆ラビノヴィチ盤のほうに惹かれます。

1991年9月ベルリン、テルデック・スタジオにて録音。既にアルゲリッチにはこの段階でフレイレと組んだ『組曲第2番』、エコノムと組んだ『交響的舞曲』の録音が存在しているのだが、あえてこのアレクサンドル・ラビノヴッチの吹き込みたいと思わせる彼女独特のインスピレーションがあったのだろう。このアルバムに気をよくしたアルゲリッチは、1993年にモーツァルト：2台と四手のためのピアノ作品集とブラームス：2台のピアノのための作品集を、1995年に魔法使いの弟子などを彼と録音している。これはアルゲリッチがいかに彼をピアノ・デュオの相手として気に入ったかを示している。

このアルバムに収められているいくつかの曲はウラディミール・アシュケナージがアンドレ・プレヴィンと組んで録音しているが、圧倒的にこちらの演奏がぼくは好みだ。ラフマニノフ独特の情熱はアルゲリッチの熱いピアニズムにピッタリくる。静かにさらさらと弾くピアニストにこの曲は任せられない。アルゲリッチは実力が彼女と同等以上のアーティストと組むとき最もいい演奏をする。その例としてあげられるのがギドン・クレーメルでありミッシャ・マイスキーと言うことが出来るだろう。ここでのラビノヴッチはそういう意味でも彼女の良き触媒と言える。

なおこの二人のピアノ・デュオはラビノヴッチの自作『ポピュラー音楽(1982年)』でも聴くことが出来る。どんどんと裾野の広がっていったアルゲリッチだ。
