シリーズ３枚からのベストといえど、やはりリミックス主体なので、おおむねノレるとはいえ、どうしても全体に「いたずらに長いな」、という印象は拭いきれないが、それをスカパラ（１と10。このうち１は、ここで初登場のトラックだとか）、そしてクレイジーケンバンド（８）の「生」のパフォーマンスが救っている。

とりわけCKBの新解釈による、まずインストとしてヒットした「ルパン三世のテーマ」に歌詞をアダプトした、当時としても珍品、という感じがあった楽曲のリメイクは、もとのやつをオレが初めて聴いたガキの頃から漠然と感じていた「妙な違和感」はそのままに、それをさらに雑然とした《場末のゴージャス感》とでも言えるような、きわめて魅力的な、CKBならではの世界へと昇華させることに成功しており、このアルバムの中でオレがもっとも聴き込んでいる、おすすめの逸品である。

「PUNCH THE MONKEY」シリーズの中のベスト版としてのその位置は、充分と言って良いほどの出来です。まず、キャスティングが良いですね、この面子の誰が手がけても、まず滑ることはない、と安心して購入しました。
　２曲目を手がけたアシッドジャズの巨匠U.F.O.松浦氏のリミックスは、U.F.O.とルパンが合体するとこんな感じ、というくらい解りやすく、そしてシックにまとまっています。U.F.O.ファンなら必聴です。
　４曲目を手がけた、打ち込みサンプリングのプロ、サワサキ氏のリミックスは、打ち込みでルパン?ちょっと不安・・・という心配を一気に吹き飛ばしてくれました。アップテンポでコミカルなサンプリングで笑いを誘いつつ、元の音源を決して壊すことなく、打ち込み嫌いの方でもすんなりと聞ける一曲になっています。
　１０曲目はお馴染みのスカパラの皆さん。誰でも聞き覚えのあるルパンのオープニングテーマソングをハイテンポで、完全にSKAにしてしまったものの、全く違和感無し!!個人的にはハイテンポなリズムが好きなので、これがベストの中のベストです。やはりDJ陣も目利きなのか、この曲は聞き逃す事なく、あちこちのクラブやCDでさらにリミックスされています。名曲をさらに名曲にしたという感じでしょうか、スカパラの皆さん、さすがです!!
　総評すると、まずルパンのオープニングテーマソングと挿入曲は、とにかく音源としてはレベルが高いので、誰がどう料理してもハズレはないのでしょう。松浦氏のようにビートを重厚にして個性的なテンポのリズムを掛ければジャズィーなルパンに。そして、スカパラのようにハイテンポでSKAのテイストをふんだんに掛ければ、LPIN THE SKA。詰まるところ、音源の(元曲)素晴らしさを、各アーティストがそれぞれのジャンルから充分に引き出した一枚です。オープニングテーマのリミックスがほとんどですが、音マニアなら、まず飽きることなく何度も聞ける一枚です。シリーズで、どこから手を付けるか迷っている方なら、まずはこのベスト版を買って、他に移行するといいのでは?

CDサブタイトル通り、このアルバムは前編リミックスバージョンです。ルパン音楽を熟知された玄人向けのように思われます。全体的な構成は、個人的な主観ではありますが少し物足りなさを感じます。しかし、ルパンファンにとっては必須アイテムです！！
