小林旭が歌った楽曲をテーマ別にセレクトするシリーズの4作のうち、本作はポップスとカヴァーの21曲を集めた一枚。それぞれ60~62年に発表されたものだが、当時は発売されなかった「黄金虫」「さいはての慕情」を収録している。監修は大瀧詠一。

１５年ほど前ＮＨＫのＦＭで小林旭の歌う「月の砂漠」をはじめて聴いた。以来、電話帳のように厚いＣＤカタログを２年毎に買い求めては、収録のＣＤを探したが、全て廃盤で、新しく編集される全曲集などにもなぜか「月の砂漠」は収録されず……。半ば諦めていたところ、大滝詠一編集によるＣＤを発見、速攻でゲットした。

今、「月の砂漠」を聴きながらこれを書いている。あれから３回も引っ越しをし、私も随分年をとったけれども、あの時の感動とトキメキが鮮明に蘇ってきた。今、この曲が聴けて、涙が出るほどうれしい。
