主人公三人（隠しキャラ入をれると四人）がそれぞれ国籍や目的が違うのでストーリーも違っていて、何回も楽しめます。今、オランダ人のおきゃんな商人リルちゃんでプレイしていますが、メインキャラクターの性格もしっかり確立しているし、絵も（やや少女漫画的ですが）綺麗でビジュアル面からも大変いい出来と言えると思います。

時代考証も丁寧で、まるでタイムスリップしたみたい！はじめる前は地理が全然ダメだったのに今では空で世界地図が描ける様になりましたし、各地の特産品もバッチリ言えます（笑）。歴史の勉強にもなって一石二鳥。

このゲームの基本は交易なんですが、運搬用の船も物資も船員も全~部自分でどうにかしなきゃならないので出だしから心地良いままならなさがあります。慣れてきて別の海域に出ると今度は海賊や対抗勢力との戦闘、文化の違い（例えばイスラム圏では、牛肉はただ同然の値段になってしまいます。）、嵐、海のバケモノ、鮫、疫病、ネズミの発生・・・と、休む間もなく次々と楽しい困難が襲ってきます。中々リアルでしょ？初めての海域では町が地図に出ないので、先の見えない恐怖も味わえます。これって現代ではなかなか味わえませんよ。もちろん幻のアイテムを探したり（根気が要るしなかなか見つかりませんが・・・）、人魚に会ったり、遺跡発見したり、楽しいこともい~っぱいあります。

このゲームで喜望峰を回る事の大変さと、達成感！これがじかに体感できます。決して便利じゃないあの時代にあえて浸かって、世界の広さを感じてみませんか？そして、その手におさめませんか？

このソフトは、その名の通り世界中を航海し、ある時は交易、ある時は艦隊を率いて敵国、海賊を倒し世界に七つある海域を制覇していくゲームです。なんと言っても素晴らしいのは、何十人と出てくる登場人物が、皆が皆、美男美女！！そして人間関係の細かいこと！！また、世界の地理、歴史、航海についてものすごく詳しくなります！！受験生にはぜひオススメ！！！

　絵がまず酷い、少女漫画じゃないのだから・・・美男美女ばかりで反吐が出るキャラクターばかり。そんな船乗り居ません。

　次に街、どこの街に入ってもどうも世界を旅しているという感覚にならない。大航海時代２では、単純ながらも、プレイヤーに街の中を歩かせることで、その疑似体験を見事に演出していたが、今作ではそれが全く伝わらない。

　海上は自分で帆の調節をしつつ移動する、これは退屈な移動をさせない良い工夫とも思えるが、慣れてくると面倒なだけかもしれない。

　総合的に見ても、大航海時代と言うにはスケールが小さい。これならまだ大航海時代2を何周もプレイしているほうがよっぽど楽しいだろう。
