目に見えぬ地雷がどこかしこに埋め込まれた最終前衛のプレリュード。ピアノは断続的な激烈音を発し、ドラムスは魔界に首を突っ込んだ絶界のビートを叩き出すが、それら音の階層のはるか下方では、地上で知覚不能なもっと大きな爆発が起こっていることにフト想像を巡らした。ここで聴こえ、振動する地響きは氷山の一角であって、さらに巨大なるマグニチュードを埋伏し、意図的にさえ仕込んだ地下実験への前奏曲にすぎない。“意図的”に、つまり“自然発生的”な前衛でなく、それどころか恐ろしい精度でピンポイントな“攻撃”を繰り返すプレイに、まさに現代ハイテク技術がジャズに乗り移っている事実をヒシヒシと感じ、その秘密裡の導入がまた怖い。生身の人間とテクノロジーの境界線がバーチャル化してますます見えにくい。最先端のコンセプトをアメリカ生活で皮膚に染み込ませてきた超精密なアンテナの先にいったい何が潜んでいるのか。これはジャズの未来であり、危機である。感じ取らねばならない。 (鷲頭毅志人) --- 2002年01月号
