「加山雄三」と検索してこれを読む人は少なからず加山雄三の唄・演奏が好きな人々であることは間違いない。だからどの曲がどうのなんてレビューは不要であろう。音が良い-星５つ。選曲も良い-とにかく聞きたい・懐かしい曲は全て網羅されている-星５つ。エレキの演奏については世に数々のバージョンが存在するが、これは若大将そのまんま。寺内タケシ節もついでに聞ける。できればステレオではなくＣＤラジカセで聞く事を勧める。ラフな機材で聞くとあっという間に昔にタイムスリップしてしまいます。

加山雄三と山下達郎の対談が萩原健太監修のもと載っています。達郎は批評家としても非常に面白い存在ですので、かなり興味深い対談となっております。収録曲については小生が述べるまでもなく素晴らしいものばかりです。これからの暑い季節にこそ相応しいと思います。リマスターも原曲を壊すこと無く、素晴らしくなっていますのでおすすめです。

このアルバムを知ったきっかけは、海外旅行の途中、夜にふらりと入ったカラオケ店である。駐在員の日本人がカラオケ店で「海 その愛」という曲を熱唱していたのだ。かなり音痴な自分でも歌えそうな気がしたので（知らない人だったのだが）「今のは何という曲ですか？」と聞いてみた。その人はネクタイを緩めながら加山雄三の「海 その愛」という曲だよ「君なんかは若いから知らないだろうなあ．．．」と頭を掻きながら教えてくれた。旅行から帰り早速、このアルバムを購入してみた。その曲は21曲目に入っていた。若さ、さわやかさ、純愛、海、ギター、ヨット。60年代以降、上昇志向を辿ることになるいわゆる団塊の世代の原動力とはこれだったのだ。既に伸びきってしまった現代、自分は彼の偉大さに触れるとともに「若さ」とはこのようなものなのだ、と再認識した。今までダサイ、古いと思っていた日本の歌謡曲が、これほど新鮮に聞こえるとは、意外な発見であった。「海に抱かれて」「波のしじま」「君」などといった表現が、凛々しく心地よい。録音の年代が古いにもかかわらず音質が非常にいい。見ると、ビートルズでおなじみのアビイロードスタジオでのリマスタリングと記載がある。数年前、日本の若手歌手の間で加山雄三をカバーするのが流行った。彼らもきっと、加山雄三のカッコよさに今更ながら気づいたのだろう。そういう私も、彼のカッコよさにノックアウトされてしまった。ちょっと、ダサイ表現になってしまった．．．？！
