70年代の音楽シーンを支えていたTinPanAlleyが初期の頃に参加した作品だと思うのですが、今聴いても決して古くないレベルの高い演奏が聴けます。特に細野さんのベースは、日本人離れしていてかっこよいです。
小坂忠さんもとても歌が巧いですし、それぞれの曲がとても良いです。後にいろいろな人にカバーされた「機関車」は、名曲ですね。

フォーキーな音づくりをしていた彼が、いきなりティン・パン・アレイ
の面々と作り上げた、ジャパニーズ・ソウルミュージックの最高傑作アルバム。
全てのソウル、Ｒ＆Ｂ、シティ・ミュージックのエッセンスがいっぱい詰まった、えーっこんなんこの時代にもうやってたんっ！ていうグルーブ感いっぱいの作品です。

最近の氏のゴスペルに傾倒した（牧師さんなので、正当ですよ。教会ももってて、唄ってます）作品も好きだが、今でもこのアルバムは大好きです。
演奏も抜群にいいし、唄が胸に響いてきます。今のＲ＆Ｂシンガーといわれる歌い手たちがいかに偽物か、よくわかりまっせ。

神戸で過ごした学生時代、ＦＭから流れてきた　ほうろう　には、それまでの和製フォークにはない音楽性を感じた。ティンパンアレーだったと後で知ったのだが演奏者もシブイ音を出すので、学生の小遣いでは大金のアルバムを買った思い出が甦る。収録曲全てが聞き込んでいけば必ず何かしらの琴線に触れる詞が曲とベストマッチしている。と、私は思う。その中で1つを選べと言われれば　つるべ糸　を推す。渋滞した夕暮れ時にちょっと豊かな心になれるかもしれない。楽器、機材が進歩したので初めて聴く人には演奏の広がりに少し物足りなさを感じるかもしれないので、☆４つとしたが、限りなく☆５つに近いアルバム。
