昔、ラジオから一生懸命に録音したキャロル・キング。そのヒット曲がプレゼントのようにつめこまれたアルバム。シンプルな歌詞の曲が多いけれど、キャロルの曲づくりで抜群に活き活きとしてビビッドな感じです。今、聴いてもその新鮮さは少しも失われない７０年代初期の数々のヒット・ソングス。朝の陽射しにも、午後の陽射しにも、夜のライトにも似合うアルバムだと思います。「つづれおり」から６曲、「ミュージック」から６曲、全２２曲が収録されているこのアルバムは親しみやすくそれでいて繊細なキャロルの世界への入り口かな。キャロル・キングを聴いたことのない若い世代にもお薦めだと思います。

英国編集盤のこのＣＤを、雑誌ＭＯＪＯで見たのが、２０００年の秋のことでした。当時私は英国に滞在していました。職場で研修のために派遣されていたのです。家族を残しての英国の寮生活。英語に苦労し、泣きたくなることも度々ありました。そんな時にこのＣＤを購入し、何度も聴きました。

エバリー・ブラザーズでヒットした「クライイング…」は、私の沈んだ心に染み込み、「コラソン」は、内容は良く分らないけれど、曲調が心を少し楽にさせてくれました。歌詞カードもなく、勿論訳詞もない英国盤ですが、それでも全体を通して聴くと、キングの曲が何故全世界で愛されているのかを、理解出来た気がしたものです。

帰国後邦盤も購入しました。仕事で辛いことがあった時のために、英国盤を車の中に置いてあります。生涯心の糧になってくれそうな１枚です。このＣＤに巡り会えて良かったな。心を‘自然な’状態に回帰させてもらえるのです。

5.0 out of 5 stars 心が洗われるアルバムです, 2003/10/11
中身が詰まりすぎた現代のデジタルサウンドや流行曲に疲れたら、是非このアルバムを聴いてください。時に悲しく時に力強いキャロルのボーカルが必ず心に染みてゆくでしょう。聴き終わったあとでなぜか力強く生きていこうという気にもなる不思議なパワーをもったアルバムです。
