   1920年代のイタリア、アドリア海には空賊相手の賞金稼ぎをしている豚がいた。「飛ばねぇ豚はただの豚だ」とのたまう彼の名はポルコ・ロッソ。紅の翼の飛行艇を乗りこなすこの豚の活躍を小気味よく描いた航空活劇である。
 『となりのトトロ』などを手がけた宮崎駿監督作品だが、一連の宮崎作品に比べるとカジュアルで軽快な出来に仕上がっているのが特徴。中年男（いや、豚）が主人公というのもめずらしい。歌手の加藤登紀子が主題歌のみならず声優として参加したことでも話題になった。
   荒々しくもいとおしい飛行艇乗りたちの姿や、クライマックスの空上の対決シーンなど世代を越えて楽しめることは間違いないが、豚なのに、いや豚だからこそ自由に生きるポルコを見れば、「飛ぶこと」を忘れてしまった大人ほど感じるところは多いかもしれない。（安川正吾）

「紅の豚」が発表された当時、私は４歳でした。
ジブリ作品は昔からなじみがあり、「紅の豚」もその一つですが、幼かった私には単なる豚が活躍する話、程度にしか感じていませんでした。

それが今ではジブリの中で、もっとも好きな作品になっています。

とにかくすべてが格好いい。
何もかもが完璧すぎる格好よさです。

もしこの作品の主人公が豚ではなく、ポルコと同じ過去を持った人間の男性だとしたら、「紅の豚」の格好よさはここまで出なかったことでしょう。
豚だからこそいいんです。また、豚だからこそ、魅力的な女性キャラ…ジーナやフィオとポルコの関係に深みが出ている気がします。

個人的には、ジーナの声優が加藤登紀子さんだというのが大変合っていていると思いました(他の声優さんももちろん合っています)。
エンディング曲、「時には昔の話を」はほんとうにすばらしい。

人によっては格段に評価の低いこの作品ですが、好きな人には本当に好きだ(というか格好いい)と思える良作なので、ぜひ多くの人に鑑賞してほしいです。
そしてポルコ・ロッソの格好よさにともにほれぼれしましょう。

我が家ではほとんど誰も見ないビデオ。一人でこっそり見て納得。
なるほど、こりゃ子供らは見ないはずだ。

芳醇で豊かな人生を描いたゆったりとした大人のファンタジーでした。
アニメなのにどうしてアドリア海がこんなに美しいのだろう。
ミラノの町工場で女達が総出で飛行艇を作り上げるシーンが特に好きです。

ジーナさんの声、そして最後の感動的な歌の加藤登紀子にも拍手。
うちの子供達も10年、いや30年たったらこの映画をもう一度見て欲しいな。

主人公は豚なのに、なぜかっこいいのでしょうか。
飛行機乗りとしてのプライドがあるからでしょうか。
この話を知ったときに、「チャーリーとチョコレート工場」のダールが、
戦争の時に飛行機乗りだった話を思いだしました。
飛行機乗りの命がかかった仕事の重みがピンと来ないので、
かっこよさだけが残っています。
