1975年発表のお宝アルバム。清楚なアレンジと美しいメロディ、切れ味の良い歌詞が見事です。ＣＤ化で音が生生しくなってます。ロクシー・ミュージック,ルー・リード,１０ＣＣ好きな方,いや全ての音楽ファンにこの美しいメロディの一杯入ったアルバムを薦めたいです。いや、本当に只物じゃない名盤なんですよ。

カナダ出身のシンガー・ソングライター、ルイス・フューレイの１ｓｔ。１曲目の「ハスラーズ・タンゴ」から普通じゃない妖しい世界に引き込まれる。フューレイの作品は一曲一曲が、エゴとエスプリに富んだ短い人間ドラマのようだ。さらに重苦しくも、タンゴのリズムにのった、キレのあるストリングスが、舞台のどんちょうのように、ドラマに残酷な格式をあたえる。彼の世界は、ときに悲しく、ときには不条理、ときには愚かしくもあるけれども、どうしようもなく、胸を締め付けるほどにせつない・・・。似たようなモチーフを扱うアーチストは少なからず、いるけれども、ルイス・フューレイのこの世界への芸術的偏屈さは、筋金入りだ、全く比較する対象を持たない孤高の芸術家と言ってもよい。彼の作品は、たぶん誰もが納得する大名盤というわけではないだろうが、「本物」を聴きたい人にこそおすすめします。
