94年のカーディガンズのデビュー作。
このアルバムがあったからこそ、スウェディッシュ･ポップが盛り上がっていったきっかけとなったし、またトーレ･ヨハンセンというプロデューサーを世に知らしめたという意味でも重要な1枚。

そんないろいろの始まりだったといえるアルバムではあるが、ここに描かれている風景は、ジャケットの犬に象徴されるように、ごくごく日常的で、この後の彼らのアルバムに比べても、最もリラックスした空気が漂っている。

個人的には、秋になると必ず聴きたくなるアルバムです。夕暮れ時に、急にひんやりした風が頬を伝い、木々が作るくっくりとした影などを見ると、思わず寂しさでいっぱいになってしまう。そんな感傷的な気分を起こさせるような儚い美しさを兼ね備えたアルバムだと思う。
それには、トーレ独特の木のぬくもりが伝わってくるような楽器の使い方に加えて、ボーカル・ニーナのちょっと鼻にかかったようなくすぐったさを伴った可憐な歌声が、一層効果を上げている。
また曲も全体的に、メランコリックな曲調が多く、スウェディッシュポップ特有の切なさ溢れるネオアコとなっている。

夏から秋へと移り変わっていく今、こうやって窓を開けて流していると、ほんとに外の虫の声とかとぴったりと寄り添っている気がする。そんな音と空気に、昔あったことなんかをふと思い出してしまいそうで、かけるのにある種の勇気がいる1枚だと思う。1stならではのミラクルが、起こっている盤なんだなと改めて実感しました。

このＣＤを聞いているとなんだか心地いいです。
特に「ブラック・レター・デイ」、「クラウディ・スカイ」は
歌詞が少し切ないのですが、共感できるところもあり聞きながら「そうだよね」とうなずけます。だからお気に入りに加わること間違いなし！
おすすめです。

カーディガンズといえば、「カーニヴァル」の入っている
セカンドアルバム『ライフ』を思い浮かべる人が多いと思い
ますが、僕は、このファースト大好きです。

ピュアで、初々しくて、まだ無名な頃のトーレ･ヨハンセン
プロデュースもバツグンに効いてます。

捨て曲がほとんどありません。

ニーナの歌声に「キュン・キュン」きます。
