   本作は、前2作の実験的な精神を引き継ぎながらも、楽曲とアレンジはさらに磨きあげられ、フガジの自信と情熱を小気味よく感じさせてくれる。本作がこれまでで最もスケールの大きいアルバムなのは確かで、サポートメンバーには、ブリジット・クロス（アンレスト、エアー・マイアミ）、キャシー・ウィルコックス（ビキニ・キル）、エイミー・ドミンゲス（Ida）、音響係のジェリー・ブッシャーが名を連ねている。そして、今回もまた優れたポップセンスが発揮されている。タイトル曲と「Life and Limb」はこれまでになく微妙な陰影をもつトラックで、張りつめたギターとささやくようなボーカルが静かな緊張感を生みだしている。ガイ・ピシャオットーの野獣のような雄たけびで始まる「Full Disclosure」といったトラックでさえ、柔らかなハーモニーで終わっている。その一方、「Ex-Spectator」「Epic Problem」などのトラックは、その激情を少しも損なうことなく、バンドの核である攻撃性を広げている。その鍵となるのがブレンダン・キャンティーの複雑かつ堅実なドラミングで、ギターの音が入る前からすでに怪物的なフックを叩きだしている。（Mike Appelstein, Amazon.co.uk）

The Argument is a bracing reminder of Fugazi's confidence and passion, reflecting the experimental impulses of their previous two albums while further refining their songs and arrangements. It's certainly their most expansive album to date, with a supporting cast that includes Bridget Cross (Unrest, Air Miami), Kathi Wilcox (Bikini Kill), Amy Domingues (Ida) and roadie-soundman Jerry Busher. There's a pronounced pop element at work this time: the title track and "Life and Limb" are Fugazi's most subtle tracks yet, their taut guitar and whispery vocals creating a quiet tension. Even a song such as "Full Disclosure", which begins with Guy Piciotto's feral howling, ends with lithe harmonies. Meanwhile, tunes such as "Ex-Spectator" and "Epic Problem" expand their core attack without sacrificing an iota of its explosiveness. Brendan Canty's sinuous, rock-solid drumming is key in this regard, providing monster hooks even before the guitars come in. --Mike Appelstein

静と動、出る所と引く所が綿密に練られていて
聴けば聴くほどその猛烈な格好良さに気付かされます。
展開が目まぐるしく変わる曲もありますが(cf:10曲目)
こういうのを「音の整理」というんでしょうか、
聴いていて全然疲れません。
さらに、これは全曲に言えることですが
ベースラインの美しさは奇跡としか言いようがありません。

もう何度も聴きましたが、今も尚、聴く度に
「ああ、此処が凄いな」って思わせるFUGAZI/ARGUMENTは
RADIOHEADや、BLOODTHIRSTYBUCHERSを好む方等々、
幅広くお薦め出来ると思います。

どの曲もシンプルで、聴き易い。無駄な贅肉は無い。しかしその根底に流れているものは壮大で、感動的である。
最初聴いたときは、カッチョイイとは思ったけどあまりの生真面目さに少々腰が引けてしまった。後ろめたい気持ちになった、とも言える。それは正しい反応なんじゃないか。めんどくさがって妥協したり、逃げたり、誤魔化したりもする。それが当たり前になってしまう恐ろしさがあり、またそこからも逃避する。FUGAZIはそういうもんの対極だ。そこにあるのは日々の鍛錬であり、誠意であり、真にタフなものだ。

もう7年も待っている。イアン・マッケイの名前は相変わらずちょくちょく至るところで目にするけど、やっぱり新しいFUGAZIを聴きたいものだ。

徹底的な反商業主義、1990年代初頭からそれを続けて来るのである
要は時代に流れているオルタナティヴをかじったような音の更に裏を取る訳である。
裏の裏をかくと

サウンドは今までの作品のものに厚みを持たせてひねった感じ。

ニルヴァーナ世代が残した最後の遺産だ。
