「故宮の至宝」第四巻は山水画の誕生から始まり、自然描写・人物画を経て画家の内面描写に発展し、更には桃源郷に遊ぶ境地にまで達して行く様を歴史的にかつ詳細に記録している。故宮博物館の絵画は光による劣化を防ぐため光線を制限した陳列がなされており、詳細が分かり難い難点があるが、このＤＶＤではその懸念もなく詳細をはっきりと見ることが出来る。五代時代に描かれた趙幹の「江行初雪図」には、長江に初雪の降った時の釣り人や舟で暮す人々の寒さに震える様子が見事に描かれている。北宋時代の郭熙による「早春図」のような名画も見れるが、中でも素晴らしいのは元時代に描かれた黄公望による「冨春山居図」である。墨の濃淡を使い分け、山水、人物、家屋などが見事に描き分けられており、感嘆せざるを得ない。当時異民族である蒙古人による支配下にあって、文人達が漢民族の誇りを絵や書に込めた気概が感じられる。
