メーカー公認の３Ｄ酔い誘発ゲームであるこの｢ガンゲージ｣はコナミらしく、シューティングのみに全ての要素を割り振られたもので、コントローラーすら武器と戦うためのもの以外に割り振られてはない。ゲームのコンセプト、操作感、テーマなどは懐古趣味的で、いまさらこのゲームに新しいものを求めようとするのは間違いもいいところだ。美麗なムービーは無、豪華声優陣も無、まったく稚拙なストーリーと古典的なＴＰＳ式の３Ｄガンアクションで作り上げられ、既存のモノのみでまとめ上げた感のあるゲームでしかない。
実はこのゲーム、ＢＧＭ音楽聴く為だけに造られたのではないかと思うほどサウンド面が無闇に特化している。スタートボタンを押し、ゲームを始め最初のステージに降り立った瞬間、それを強く実感できる。コナミのシューティングゲームといえば優良ゲームミュージックを数多く使用していることで有名であるが、このゲームもきちんとその遺伝子を受け継いでいる。
冒頭でも述べたがこのゲームは全ての要素をシューティングのために割り振られている。人によっては他の要素を求めたがるかも知れないが、シューティングゲームとして割り切られているという点においては評価すべき点である。兎に角撃ちまくり敵弾を掻い潜り、そして破壊する。これに何が新しいものがあろうか、しかし、それをコナミらしくこぢんまりとまとめてきているのは良点。
すでにただ同然で取引されているこのゲーム。音楽を聴くためならばサントラもあるが、すでにプレミア価格が覆いかぶさっている。しかし、ゲームなら……。音楽のためにゲームを買うというのも悪くない。
