　グラディウス、ダライアス、そしてこのR-TYPE。この３つが一般的に（私だけ？）横スクロールシューティングの御三家と言われています。そして、各シリーズはその後のシューティングに多くの影響を与えています。グラディウスはオプション、ダライアスはゲームミュージックというジャンルの確立。もちろん、R-TYPEも数多くの影響を与えています。
　このR-TYPEの特徴は、フォースというそれ自体はやられ判定がなく、敵弾を防いだり、攻撃に使ったりできる武器にあります。また、パワーアップも自機がするのではなく、このフォースがパワーアップしていきます。非常に斬新なシステムで、今でもこのシステムは素晴らしいと思えます。形を変えても、このシステムは他のシューティングに見ることができます。
　そして、今では当たり前のように思える１画面を超える敵との戦いは、このR-TYPEが元祖です。R-TYPEがなければ今のシューティングはなかったと言っても過言ではありません。
　ちょっと残念なのが、スコア計算が多少バグっており、変なことになることがあります。それ以外は文句のつけようがないほど見事です。
　Iは非常に難易度が良く出来ています（甘いと言う人もいますが）が、IIは結構高めです。といっても理不尽なほど高いわけでもないし、ちょっと検索すれば攻略サイトも見つかるので是非プレイして欲しいです。特に、シューターなら絶対にプレイすること！！これをプレイせずにシューターを名乗らないで下さい。（←言いすぎ

このR-TYPESはグラディウスDXパック等とは違い　プレステ版のみです
勿論　某イメージファイト＆Xマルチプライと違い　アイレム自身による移植
解像度の関係で画面構成がやや違う以外は完璧　ロード時間も気にならない
プレステ２でも正常に動作する　隠しでステージセレクトや無敵モードもあり
廉価版なので安いと文句の付けようがありません
ゲーセンでコインをつぎ込んだ人なら　間違いなく買いです
ただ　最近流行りの”弾幕系”と正反対に位置するゲームなので
”シューティングは弾幕だ”という方には向かないと思います
逆にグラディウス５やボーダーダウン等で横シューに興味を持った方なら
楽しめると思います(グラフィックはショボク感じるかもしれませんが・・)

何と言ってもこのゲームは凄いの他に言葉は出ない。
まず、システム面。フォースという今までにありそうでなかった
システムである。アイテムも多すぎず少なすぎず、丁度良い。
チャージ弾はあまり使わないが威力も高く、
一時期はまったものである。(笑）
グラフィック。昔のゲームという感じをむき出しにしている。
しかしながらとても細かく作られていて、ボスの爆破、チャージ弾
そして敵。このグラフィックは今のゲームにも負けないだろう。
最後に。この~R's BEST~R･TYPESはR-TYPEとR-TYPE2が入っている。
ステージ数も合わせて多めで、難易度も丁度いい感じで
最初は楽だが、どんどん難しくなっていくという所も
はまらせる要素だ。
