2001年。
九十年代前中期にRockのすべてをひっくり返したようなNirvanaとThe Smashing Pumpkinsらの活躍から数年後。確としたリーダーが存在しない「カオス」の時代に新しい息吹を吹き込んだのが、American HiFi。
　激しさの中に、優しい風が吹き込む、さわやかな彼らの生み出す音はセルフ・タイトルを冠された1stにて、完璧。
　ポップで、エッジィで、憎めない音楽を奏でる彼らのようなバンドは前時代の遺物かのように、PostGrungeと名付けられてしまっているが、Grungeの名を冠するにはさわやかすぎるため、New Generation Rockという名を私自身は与えた。
　力強いドラムに、小技が光るギター、そしてやたら男前でいい声の歌。
　コレが売れなくて何が売れるのか？　といった雰囲気。私自身は高く評価しているバンドだが、残念ながら、それほどの高評価は受けずに、Garage Rockバンド達にその位置を奪われた。
　二曲目、Flavor of the Weekの体が勝手に跳ねるような、リズム感が彼らの最高潮。

私はThe Art Of Losingを聴いてAHFに興味を持ちました。
この1stアルバムは、初め聴いたときは正直微妙でした。
2ndや3rdの方が良いなぁって思ってたんですが、繰り返し聞くうちにとても好きになり、
今や友達に勧めるときも1stが良いよって言ってます。

M2やM10が有名ですが、個人的にはM8以外は全部良い曲です。
（M8はイマイチ好きになれませんでした。）

聴き過ぎて飽きてきたので星４つです（笑）
聴き過ぎるぐらい良い曲が詰まってますよ。
