   さまざまな戦闘機を操作し、数々のミッションを攻略していくシューティングゲーム『エースコンバット』。シリーズ第3弾となる本作は、基本的なシステムはそのままに舞台設定を一新。舞台は、ふたつの巨大企業が国家的な力を有する近未来世界。常に情勢が不安定だった巨大企業ゼネラルリソース社とニューコム社が交戦状態に突入する。

   プレイヤーはユーピオと呼ばれる組織に属したパイロットとなり、両社の紛争鎮圧のため戦闘機で出撃することになる。物語はさまざまな人間の思惑が交差するドラマティックな展開。全編クオリティーの高いアニメーション描かれ、ゲームの雰囲気を盛り上げる。また、ミッションクリアー後に行われる選択によって物語がいくつも分岐するという魅力的な構成になっている。（池村慎一）

１や２と違うということで不評だったりするんですが
それを気にしないなら最高に楽しいゲームです。
なんといってもストーリがいいんです！
キャラクターそれぞれが独自の思想や信念を
持っていて、ゲームに飲み込まれます。
全部で６パターンの分岐があり、やればやるほど
なぞが解けていきます。ほんとに飛んでいる感じに

なりました。BESTになってるからこの値段でこの内容は
嬉しいとこです。

ナムコの最高傑作です。純粋に戦闘機が好きな人には敬遠されるかもしれませんが、ストーリー仕立ての架空の世界のドッグファイトが魅力的です。ステージもいろんなバリエーションがあり、シナリオにもいくつもの分岐点があり所属している軍を変えることもできます。ざっと数えて戦闘機数は50を越えた気がします。XR-900という5000キロ出せる異常機もありますがほとんどは実在の戦闘機です。あいかわらずソ連の戦闘機、su35 su37が異常に機動性が良く米のF-15などのポピュラーな戦闘機の面目が丸潰れです。隠し武器もありなかなか飽きないというより思い出したらやりたくなるゲームです。画面のざらつきはPS2と比べれば見劣りしますがご了承くださいね。

ACE5を買いました。
今思えば、全5作品の中でこれは特異な内容だったと思います。

1ストーリーがアニメなところ
2実在しない戦闘機が多数出てくる

2つだけですが、これは3特有の「セールスポイント」なのでしょうか。
アニメチックなのとSFに近い戦闘機は賛否両論ですが、私は一番印象強い作品でした。ストーリーの内容も、エンディングで「あぁ、そうだったのか」と、映画【シックス・センス】的な懲り具合に驚かされました。
マルチエンディングもとても良かったと思います。
