   未来世界を舞台にした、リアルなロボットバトルが好評なシリーズの第2弾で、そのプレイステーション2対応版。プレイヤーは、パーツや装備を組み立てて造ったロボットを操作して、与えられた任務や、敵との戦いをこなしていくことになる。ロボットを構成するパーツは、前作より26種類増え、その組み合わせはなんと100億通り以上にもなる。さらに、本作でプレイヤーが、挑むことになるミッションの数は100種類。バリエーション豊かなゲーム性は、プレイヤーを飽きさせない。

   さらに、これまでのシリーズにもあった対戦モードのほかに、同じミッションをクリアすることで技量を競う「VSミッション」モードが新登場。これでゲームをクリアしたあとも遊ぶことができる。身近に対戦相手がいない場合でも、プレイステーション2対応モデムによる通信対戦が可能だ。（小林倫祥）

今になって本作が対戦ゲームとしてシリーズ中最も優れていたと感じます。他のシリーズはやり込んで来ると勝ちアセンがほぼ決まってきて、身内対戦ではそれを巡っていろいろと議論をしたものです。その点ＡＡはしっかりとアセンを組めばどんな脚部、重量クラスでもそれなりの機体が作れるので対戦は楽しかったですね。無印２に較べて色々と改善されたので必勝パターン、必勝アセンというのは無かったです。
シリーズ最多ミッションはさすがにやり応えがありましたが、クリアしてからもう一度やりたくなるようなものはあまり無かったのが残念です。かなり理不尽な難易度のものも多かったのでコンプで精一杯だったというのが正直なところでしょうか。
個人的に、本作のみの要素であるＶＳミッションを高く評価しています。当時はこれが以後の作品でもっと発展してくれることを願って止まなかったのですが...（もちろん僚機システムの礎になったという点で活かされていますが）

シリーズ5作目、PS2で2作目となるAC。

今回は舞台を再び地球に戻した。
ネオアイザック、オールドザム、ザーム砂漠、ホワイトランドなど、初代シリーズをやった人はニヤニヤが止まらない地名が沢山でてくる。

今回のテーマはずばり、「ミッション」。
ストーリーなんてない。アリーナもない。
ひたすらミッションを受けまくる。その数100。

ミッション自体は、当時は詰み難度だったが、今やると、機体構築と立ち回りができているので楽勝だった。（戒世以外）
個人的にだらだら長い3SLのミッションより好み。

てなわけで、本筋のゲーム自体は好き嫌いがわかれる。

バランスに関しては、最高といわれ、今でも対戦会を行うらしい。
その点でもアリーナがないことが悔やまれる。
ちなみに通信対戦には、かなりロットの古いPS2が必要。（具体的にはI-LINK端子装備機種）

このACが他のと違っていいところは、ミッションに失敗しても勝手に話しが進んでいかないところです。難しいと言われていますが、なんども挑戦すればきっと勝てます。非常に安くなってきているので、暇で根気のある人はやってみたらどうでしょう？
