関が原の合戦を舞台としたＳＬＧ。
リアルタイムで進行する戦闘は、今までのターン制といったシステムよりも、より戦術の重要性が増している。

予備兵力の投入タイミングを見極めたり、時間差を利用した２段階攻撃、敵の後背に回り込んでの包囲作戦など。
これまでのＳＬＧには無かったダイナミズムな戦闘が演出できます。

また、戦闘シーンの随所で見られる各種演出も一見の価値あり。

しかし、戦場における戦闘のみに絞られた内容なので、内政好きのＳＬＧファンにはお勧めできないです。

コーエーの戦略シュミレーションゲーム、「決戦」シリーズ第一弾。
軍隊を指揮して戦う戦略ゲームだがかなり自由度が高い。
自軍の部隊を自在に配置でき、部隊編成から伏兵、築陣部隊などの設定もできる。
部隊にはそれぞれ好きな目標を定めさせて出陣後は命令通りに動き出すが

なんと戦闘中に自在に移動、戦闘、戦術の命令を好きなタイミングで出すことができる。
これはこの手の戦略ゲームとしてはかなり自由度が高い部類に入る。
またクリア後は西軍シナリオや難易度変更などもあるので長く遊べる筈だ。

個人的には戦闘中のムービーカットの機能が付いているのが気に入った。

それぞれの武将が編成する部隊に指示を送り
フィールド上を動かし、敵味方の部隊同士がリアルタイムで戦闘する。
部隊を移動させ攻撃、包囲や待機、他にも鉄砲攻撃などの特殊戦術を使ったり、
退却、追撃などかなり細かく指示ができる。

ゲームに登場するステージがやや少ないのが不満だが
戦闘そのものは爽快。
また、部隊編成などは、陣形や兵種等をかなり細かく設定でき
戦闘中もリアルタイムで様々なパラメータが戦局に影響を及ぼすので
かなりやり応えがある。
難度を上げれば攻略は格段に難しくなり、やりこむのも面白い。

ゲーム序盤は細かい設定をする必要は無く、説明が出るのも親切。
内政などの要素は一切無くストーリーも無いようなものだが
主要な武将の演出は力が入っていて、見ていて面白い。
一流声優が声を当てているので、下手糞な演技にガッカリするということも無い。

PS2発売当時にすぐ出たゲームとしては
完成度もかなりのものであり、ムービーも当時としては高レベルだった。
最初はムービー映像を、飽きたら戦術をじっくり楽しめる２度おいしい名作。
