この第５は別物である。クラシックを聴き込んだ方には怒られるかもしれないが、本物はこっちだと思う。
はっきり言って第５はこれまで、どこが良いのか全くわからなかった。とにかく苦手だった。ヴァントのこの録音を聴いた方は、初めはなんと稚拙な演奏と思うかもしれない。第５の重厚さをどこへ消し去ったのだと怒りを感じるかもしれない。しかし、後でついた「運命」という表題や有名な『ダダダダーン』というフレイズを基礎知識にこの第５を聴いた人は少なくあるまい。ヴァントの演奏は、この“有名な”第一楽章をアッサリとやりすごす。

第二楽章からの美しさ、これは比類ないものだ。この演奏で第一楽章を聴いて違和感を覚えた方の大半は、そこからの美しさを聴いて、今まで聴いた第５が、いずれもベートーヴェンの美しい構成力とは程遠いものと気づかれるのではないか？第一楽章は、この美しい交響曲の提示部としてこそ本質があると気づかないだろうか？褒めすぎだろうか？
私は何度もクライバーの名盤と聴き比べてみた。クライバーの演奏が素晴らしいことは一切否定しない。でも私にとっての第５は、ヴァントである。
この第５で、ベートーヴェンに心底恋してしまった。第５は恋の曲である。

なおこの感想は、第６「田園」を聴く前のものであることも付け加えたい。さらに強調しておくが第４も、生命感あふれる珠玉の演奏である。
正直、人に教えたくない。
