今や貫禄十分のマダムぶりをテレビで披露する林寛子が、アイドルだった７０年代に発表したシングルを中心に集めたＣＤ。デビュー曲「ほほえみ」でスタートした清純派路線は「白い窓辺」で完成。小泉今日子もカバーした「素敵なラブリーボーイ」、うなり節が印象的な「カモン・ベイビー」と元気路線が定着し、デビュー２年にして「危険がいっぱい」ではお色気ものぞかせる。この曲で林寛子はアイドルとして早くも頂点を極め、以後結婚引退までに発表した曲は、歌のうまさこそ感じられるものの、企画的には中途半端なのが惜しい。アイドルとしては、当時人気を集めていたほぼ同年代の山口百恵や桜田淳子、岡田奈々などと違い、トップに立つことはなかった林寛子だが、歌のうまさや表現力、器用さといった非凡な才能に改めて感嘆する。アイドル時代の彼女はもっと評価されていいと思う。そんなことを思わせるＣＤである。

歌手・林寛子さんは思ったほどヒット曲がなく、活動期間も5年くらいなんですね。それでも今もなお記憶に刻み込まれているのは、インパクトのあるパフォーマンスと歌唱力が高いレベルにあったからでしょう。 『素敵なラブリーボーイ』はセールス、オリコン順位とも後年カバーした小泉今日子バージョンが上回ったとのことですが、私は元気一杯で弾けている寛子さんの方がずっと良いと思います。 70年代中盤、アイドル全盛期に真っ向からライバル達に挑んだ林寛子。そんな熱い思いが詰まった本作ベストという感じがします☆

先日、懐メロ番組で彼女が出ていて驚いた。なんと現在の天地真理をほうふつさせる恰幅の良さ、その姿で堂々と「素敵なラブリーボーイ」を歌っていたのだから、懐かしいというよりも、むしろアイドル時代の彼女とのギャップにとまどうことの方が大きかったのである。
私の林寛子のイメージとしてはやはりデビュー時が思い出される。このアルバムの１曲目「ほほえみ」のとおり、非常にさわやかな笑顔と清純そうなイメージであった。歌はアイドル歌手としては上手いほうだったと思う。代表曲はやはり「素敵なラブリーボーイ」だろう。後年この曲で小泉今日子がヒットさせたように、彼女としてもぜひヒットして欲しかった気がする。ちなみに、この曲をよく聴いているとわかるが、曲後半で寛子のボーカルが伴奏より先へ先へと進んでしまっているのがなんともアイドルらしくて微笑ましい。
このアルバムではアイドル時代のシングル曲は網羅されており、彼女の足跡を知るにはいいだろう。他の曲では「カモン・ベイビー」「仮病が上手な男の子」あたりが彼女らしい曲想だが、それ以外ではあまり曲に恵まれなかったことが悔やまれる。また、彼女の歌手デビューが７４年、前年のアイドルラッシュのあおりを受けた形で売り出しのタイミングを失った感じもあった。
Ｂ級の少しだけ上を行くアイドル歌手といって良いだろうか。
