   アレグサンダー・ケイの小説『残された人々』をベースに1978年にNHKで放送された、宮崎駿が初の演出を手がけたアニメーション。人類が滅亡の危機を乗り越え20年。少年コナンが少女ラナと出会い、彼女を狙うインダストリアを敵に回して活躍するSF冒険活劇の傑作。

   最終第7巻では第23話「太陽塔」から最終回第26話「大団円」までを収録。インダストリアの地下住民の力も借りてコナンたちは三角塔を占拠。太陽エネルギーも復活するが、それに乗じてレプカはついにギガントを飛ばす。これまでのエピソードで登場したあらゆる要素が作用して、奇跡的といえるほどにすべてが完璧に収束する完結編。ラオ博士の最後の言葉に表現されているように、本作はまさしく次世代へのメッセージといっていいだろう。（田中 元）

　「未来少年コナン」は、テレビシリーズものによくありがちな中だるみもなく、全話ともすばらしいのですが、特にこの最終４話は最高です。詳しくは書けませんが、アニメ史上に残る名場面が目白押しで、まさに若き日の宮崎駿パワー炸裂！！といった感じです。私は何度も見て、今でも台詞が言える位です（笑）。ぜひ見ましょう！

テレビやＶＨＳで何度も見ていたのだが、改めてＤＶＤで見てみると、
そのクオリティの高さに驚くばかり。
高画質の中ではまったく古臭さを感じない！
完全な連続ストーリーものであるコナンは、つまり宮崎アニメの中でもっとも長編の作品であり、脇役の描きこみや緩急メリハリの点において、映画の２時間作品よりも高レベルにあると言って良いかも。

これほど万人に薦められるアニメは他に知らない。

まだみたことない人が、うらやましいくらいだ。
この感動をまっさらに感じれるもの。

　本作は、1980年代にビデオ化されたのを最初に、何度もソフト化されてきた。ＤＶＤとしてのリリースも、実は２度目である。
　前回のバージョンでは全５巻の構成で、１~４巻にはそれぞれ６話ずつが収録され、最終巻には25話と26話の２話のみが収められていた。ビデオやレーザーディスクでは７巻構成で、１巻につき４話ずつの収録を基本とし、最終巻はやはり２話のみ収録であった。
　今回のバージョンでは、最終巻に４話が入っており、クライマックスを連続して鑑賞することが可能となった。これは嬉しい変更点である。いままでのソフトでは、コナンたちが最終決戦に突入し、さあこれから、というところでディスクなりテープなりを交換しなければならなかったのだ。
　欲を言えば、全５巻構成で、１巻あたり５話ずつ収録、最終巻のみ６話というのがベストではないかと思う。とくに本作の場合、序盤の何話かは作画が荒れている（ラナちゃんも、いまいち可愛くない）ため、今回のバージョンのような構成にすると、続きを買ってもらえない可能性もあるかも知れない。……そんなことないとは思いますがね。
　いずれにせよ、本作は、日本のテレビアニメの中でも最高峰をきわめた作品のひとつである。できうるならば毎週一回、時間を決めて、１話ずつ見て欲しい。とくに、お子さんにはそうして欲しい。あなたの人生の宝物になる。必ず、なる。
