ポスター、照明も含め全篇を緑色のイメージで仕上げ
ストーリーもよけいな脚色をそぎ落としまるでヌーベルバーグをも彷彿させるかと思うほどの映像美（タッチ）

作品序盤の回想シーンでの優作のナレーションは、優作自身幼い頃の下関での想い．．．ポルノ映画なみの低予算で ＴＶ『探偵物語』 の合間に二週間たらずで
撮り終えてしまったという．．．優作＋村川コンビのホームグラウンドでの最後の本編である。

　基本的に松田優作は不器用な役者だと思う。この時代より以前の映画スターはどの役をやってもどこか固定したイメージがあったように思う。それがまた喜ばれた時代でもあったと思うし、否定はしないが。　
　優作はそれでよしとせず、常に自分の役作りにおいて冒険し続けた。だから失敗作もあれば、伝説に残る演技もある。最後まで自らのイメージと戦い続けた人だと私は思う。　
　その打ち破ろうとしていたイメージがこの映画での松田優作自身だったと思う。しかし、皮肉にも松田優作という役者が一番輝くのもまた、この映画のように、強い優作なんだ。

　今だに高い人気を誇る個性派俳優、松田雄作主演の遊戯シリーズ三部作の掉尾を飾るアクションムービー。

　前二作がハードボイルドな作風の中に、雄作のアドリブによるユーモアを絡めたライトな雰囲気のアクション映画だったのに比べ、本作は一切のユーモアを排除。オープニングから数分間のまったくセリフのない息詰るシーンに、雄作＆村川透のハードボイルドが詰まっている！
　遊戯シリーズメインテーマに乗せたりりィの歌、海辺でのキスシーン…… アンティーク時計店での森下愛子との出会い…… 雄作演じる殺し屋"鳴海昌平"の私生活、生い立ちが語られる…… など、雄作＆遊戯シリーズファンなら絶対に揃えておきたいDVDだ。
