人は忙しくても暇であってもいけない。どちらであっても仕事を中心にして生きている点では変わりがない。撮影クルーの男は人を車になぞらえ、共に働きすぎるとオーバーヒートしてしまうと言う。「僕は悪人か？」と子供に問いかけ自分の仕事にわずかな疑念を抱きながらも、仕事の電話がくればすべてを放り出して丘へと車を飛ばしていく。

葬式の取材で頭が一杯になっていた彼は、取材の打ち切りが決定的になったことで愛する心を取り戻す。親切にしてくれた井戸堀りの男の生死の分かれ目を前にして、彼はためらうことなく助けを呼びに飛び回り、更に老婆の診察を医者に依頼するようになる。彼は詩人の言葉のように、風が吹くままに人を愛するようになる。もはや人の死を待ち望むことはない。

仕事から解放された彼は村を出る時、カメラを村の女たちに向け夢中でシャッターをきる。村を出ようという時になって初めて村人を愛している自分に気づいたかのように。キアロスタミは幾つかの映画の中で、死に触れてこそ生の輝きがわかるようになるということを教えている。別れ道にさしかかった時、初めて人は自分の歩んで来た道を振り返るようになるのである。

5.0 out of 5 stars キアロスタミ監督の最高傑作, 2003/1/13
キアロスタミ監督の映画の中でも私が一番好きな作品です。子供を撮るのが好きな監督ですが、この映画では主に一人しか出てきません。そして田舎の素朴さをそのまま映したようなその一少年の表情を見ただけでも「いいなあ」と思ってしまいます。映画を見終わってまさに生きることをゆっくりと自然に問いかけてくるような、そして同時に一つの答えを導きだしたような、そんな印象を素直に受けました。風景が美しく、またジグザグの山道をここでも違った形で描いています。この映像美はすばらしい。

これは、僕が初めてまともに見たキアロスタミ監督の作品です。
始めはストーリーの展開も少なく、会話もまどろっこしくて
退屈でした。映像が綺麗だからとそれだけで見ていると、だんだん
ストーリーが動き出す。しかしもちろん、ハリウッド映画のように
ド派手ではなく、あえて静かに。

この作品で特に印象的だったのは、医者の言葉。

「響きのいい約束よりも、目の前のぶどう酒だ」
