ある意味、それは最近になってやっと氷室京介というアーティストのバラードが真にBallad、物語詩になってきたからだと思う。「炎の化石」なんかはバラードに入るのかああ?と思うけど、嬉しいのでよしとする。他、同じようにシングルでしか聞けなかったTenderlyなんかも入っているので、なんかどっかマニヤな選曲だと思う。だから、EMI時代の名曲が入っていないからといって悲観することはないコレクションだろう。Lover's Dayはしっかりおさめられているし、やはりEMI時代のもので今のヒムロックのバラードと共通点のあるものというのは少ないと思うからだ。やはり、なんだかんだいいつつ、試行錯誤的だったHiger Selfあたりからヒムロックは着実に素晴らしいバラードメーカーになっていったのだと納得させられる。最近好きになったという人にもオススメ。Lover's Dayをある分岐点と考えるファンにも、持っていると便利な一枚。これでもうちょっと値段が安かったらなあ。

氷室京介の最大の魅力は、ロックシンガーとしてのハードボイルドさの中にある。つまりキャラクター自体の魅力である。それは周知の事実であるが、もうひとつ忘れてはいけないことがある。それは、「天才的なメロディーメーカー氷室京介」という側面である。機会があれば、一度このアルバムの１０曲目に収められている「LOVER’S DAY」という曲のメロディをピアノでなぞってみていただきたい。きっと洗練された美しさを再確認できるに違いない。氷室京介のバラッドは、この曲をモチーフに枝分かれしていったような気がしてならない。ちなみに、アルバムの中で一番古い曲である。

本人が言ってるように、
「ビート系は”楽”なもの、大変なのが”バラード”、
バラードに力を入れていてバラードで評価されたい」
と言っていることからもわかるように、氷室さんにとってバラードは
特別なものである。個人的にもビート系の曲よりもバラード系の曲
の方が、氷室さんの作曲センスのすごさがわかる。
氷室さんのバラードは本当にすばらしい。
そして何より、森　雪之丞さんと松井五郎さんの詞は最高である。

「TRUE BELIEVER」が入ってないのが非常にもったいない（なぜ！？）
なので星は４つです。
しかし「WALTZ」「LOVER'S DAY」「Julia」といった名曲は
全部入っており氷室さんのバラードが好きな人にはたまらない内容だ。
「魂を抱いてくれ」もＳ.スティーブンスによるナイロン弦バージョン
だし嬉しい。氷室さんのバラードの数々を改めて聴いて思うのは、
日本のアーティストでこれだけ作曲センスのある人がいるだろうか。
歌唱力や表現力はもちろんのこと、作曲能力の高さがずばぬけている。
